The crows and a bird that tweets

I have crows. Lots of them. It's not exactly the Birds but they are there and, although they're not intrusive they must be keeping away other birds and they are occasionally a bit loud in the morning. Also, the puppies are very little so I have to hover over them to make sure no crow takes a chunk of puppy meat.

The plan is to get a slingshot or a water gun (probably a water gun given the chances of hurting myself or breaking something with a sling shot) as well as some fake snakes. The internet doesn't lie, right?

Then the idea is to put some places for little birds to nest on the inside of the exterior wall. I think I may have stolen this idea from Lanka Logger? What I'd like to do is have more interesting birds who make different noises. Like the one I heard this morning that actually says "tweet".

I am no expert in birds (read: I don't know anything apart from crows and pigeons really) but I'd like to learn more and so be less likely to confuse one of the putative ring tones on the new bell for the gate with an actual bird leading to great hilarity amongst a growing crowd in the shop.

  1. Dear blogger,

So today on my lunch I have sat and read your blog with very much interest and entertainment. Please write more and don’t skimp on the detail….. Your friend Harry seems like a wise man giving you a camera, but reading can see that you are a lover of Mac, meaning of course you have an Iphone, that round glass thing on the back isn’t a homing beacon it’s a camera, take snaps and post them on, I think we are all very interested in the town around you especially some of the distilleries…!
I admit that I have only read this blog and have not tracked down the previous one which may answer some of my questions, such as why haven’t you been next door to learn to gut a fish yet, and what exactly did happen to that kitten you spoke about? And was that related to it biting through your mac cable……? (picture cat flying through the air)
Another mystery is when you were alone with no power how exactly did you charge those electric lanterns????
So looking at the Google map image of your property I refuse to think that I am the first person to consider adding a moat around the inside and declare yourself an island, we will get you a flag made and you can state independence…..
Electricity is good, surround yourself with it, the more the better, but don’t forget some speaker cables for the ‘gatherings’…… everyone forgets this when they have the electrician around….. If he is running cable he can run it alongside and pick up speakers later when you have some pennies, dirhams, cents or rupees going spare…
The painted tyres look fab, cut out some holes around the outside and add some small flowering plants, this will incorporate them a bit more.
I, unlike your brother, have absolutely no understanding of blog etiquette but add some photos into the posts themselves, I like pictures when I read probably because I’m a dailymail reader, and have a low attention span..
Im sat here thinking of names for your new little empire, and can’t help but think you need to incorporate some of your Irish routes, trying to merge all of this together is as you say harder than you think.
As I have said before, plant rosemary, lots and lots of it, you’re in Sri Lanka, living next to a lagoon, the mosquitos will have a field day..
So the final question is when you can fit us in for a visit…. We are thinking later in the year. We are very posh and like things like toilets, that are not blue, you know life’s luxuries, and also would like your fish gutting and cooking training to have been completed…. You can’t keep talking about all of that fresh fish unless you can cook a first class supper….
Kidding aside the place looks fantastic, and getting better and better.
Your good friend The Welsh bearded spelling bee champion.

  3. No, you couldn't have stolen the idea from me because the bird nest pot things were all happily hanging on the wall before we even moved in. I just took pictures of them!

  4. My wife who is from S. India, reminded me that the Hindu way in the morning is to feed the raven first before they eat breakfast themselves. It did not slow me down but I did observe the custom from my in-laws place while visiting.

    1. Hi John, Thanks for the comment. Maybe I'm missing something but it seems counter intuitive? Making my place more pleasant will just attract them, no?
